Usually, buying insurance is the easy bit. When the unexpected happens, the policy you bought is really tested and we understand that you will need someone on your side. At Eaglemat we know that’s when our clients will need us the most. So if the worst does happen, we are there to help you through and through.

Claims Procedure

What do I do in the event of a claim?

Claims Procedure:

Immediate notice

Once you learn of any circumstances likely to give rise to a claim, you must report to your insurers immediately (The insurers’ contact details, including claims line numbers, are contained within the policy wording) and provide all assistance which insurers may require.

If you are unable to access your documents at this time and need to inform us of a situation, please contact us on (link for Eaglemat contact details) and we’ll put you in touch with the right person.

Other actions to consider.
  1. Minimise loss

Where possible, please take action to minimise the damage and to avoid interruption or interference with the business and to prevent further injury or damage.

  1. Inform police

Moreover, as soon as reasonably possible please contact the police if the loss or damage is by theft, attempted theft, riot, civil labour or political disturbances or vandals or malicious people or if Money or non-negotiable instruments have been lost.

Motor claim

Being in a car accident is stressful enough without having to hunt around to find out what to do to make a claim on your insurance. Here are the simple steps you need to take to help make a claim quickly and effectively.

Immediately after an accident:

  • You must stop, no matter how minor you think the accident is. Failure to stop is an offence and could even result in a prison sentence.
  • Call 999 if yourself or anyone else has been injured, or if you have suspicions that the accident may be part of a crash for cash scheme. A dash cam can be helpful in identifying these schemes.
  • At the scene collect as much information as you can, including photographs, sketches of the vehicle positions and notes. Some useful information to note down would be:
    • Date, time of day, location, weather conditions, traffic conditions, any road markings or signs.
    • The vehicle make, model, registration number, condition, colour, estimated speed, direction, use of lights and indicators, and number of passengers.
    • Details about the driver, including contact information and a description.
    • Make a note of any witnesses, including passengers, onlookers or police officers, and if possible get their contact details too.
    • Make a note of any damage to the vehicles or to any property, as well as any injuries caused.
  • Give your details to anyone else involved. If anyone is injured, It is essential that you provide your insurance details.

Don’t admit liability – We are all human and we will often slip up here. It’s easy to apologise and take responsibility for an accident that may not have been your fault. If the party you have collided with takes your apology too seriously, it can cause issues for the insurance companies to come to an agreement on who is at fault. For this reason, insurers state in their policy wording that you should leave the decisions on who was at fault, up to them.

What you should do is check if each other are ok, examine the damage and exchange details.

What you will need is:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Registration number
  • License number and expiry
  • Make and model of the vehicle.
  • Witness contact details where available

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so given that we all have camera phones these days, it’s a great idea to be able to take photos of the accident scene and the damage to the vehicles too. If safe to do so, taking photos of any street signs, road conditions or anything else that would give insight into how the accident occurred is a bonus too.

Emergency

If you wish to notify us of an emergency while out of hours, your policy documents will contain the relevant out of hours contact details unique to your policy.
